Last night as we were driving to a friend's house, my husband decided to rock my world...and not in a good way!Out of the blue he just says, "So, I signed stage two of a bid sheet today for a full time position." I asked for some details and in the end the hours would be pretty close to the same, other than he would get home 2 hours earlier every day and never have to work weekends. He works two jobs now at about 52 hours a week. We have been waiting well over a decade for full time... Only having to work one job at 40 hours and weekends off would be awesome for him. Plus, knowing he is off every Sunday is good too. Here are the problems... 1. Last time he had a "full time" opportunity at his job he gave up a VERY high paying job--even trained his replacement--only to get disqualified two weeks later. We were in a mess and struggled for a bit. I never really got over it because he then informed me he did not want that particular position again...um...that is like one of the only full time options at his job! So we would have to wait even longer for a full time opportunity. Yuck! Took me quite awhile to get over all of it and adjust to a lot less money. My fear: that he will quit his current second job and get disqualified again and we would be in a huge mess...again! 2. We will lose a little over $400 a month in pay and NO raise for THREE years! Now, after 3 years he DOES get full rate which will bring us a $500 or so increase, but really only comes to about $100 more … [Read more...]
Opportunity Comes with a Price…
Be Careful What You Ask For…
Before I begin I want to make sure that you all know that I am aware of the starving children, the 1+ billion people without clean water, and the many families who are in need. However, I am human and I was disappointed with what my husband gave me.Shallow?Maybe.Honest?Totally!Why??Well, if you remember "The List" post, then you know we already had a pre-Christmas issue. He ASKED for a list. Quick review: It annoyed me that he did not try to do a little outside the box, we argued, then we came to an understanding...or so I thought... Well, ladies, he sure did "think outside the box"!!He did not get me even ONE thing on my list! Are you ready for this?????He got me a "handy door hanger" to hang things on my closet door (seriously?), an as seen on TV type CD clinic for cleaning and repairing and CD's (huh??), and a Word study dictionary.Take it in.Wait for it...AHHHHHHH!!!!!UNBELIEVABLE!My sweet teenage daughter was with him and tried to tell him this was not what I meant about getting things off the list. She tried to reason with the man--sadly to no avail...I guess in some over-spiritual parallel universe, I should be thankful and all that crap. However, I was not.I tried to put on a happy face after opening my first gift (the door hanger).I did pretty well...Then came the CD clinic.I failed.I actually almost cried. Yes, I know...you do not need to tell me how absolutely childish this all … [Read more...]
For the Love of … Rice???
Yesterday was like any other day; work, homeschooling, more work, cleaning, shopping, cooking... Then came the rice... Curious? Well, you are in for quite a treat with this one. Again, I find myself in the awkward position of sharing a bit too much of us in an effort to heal and help myself and reach others...Let me get right to it.Last night, I made my husband's favorite meal; pepper steak over rice. He LOVES it! I do not make it very often because the meat for it is a bit pricy for this budget minded Momma. However, I wanted to do something special for him and my youngest daughter since it is her favorite too.Everything seemed to be going fine. Hubbie was sharing work stories and we were all enjoying our meal. Until... I saw him make a second full plate of dinner. Now, normally, he has one full plate and then maybe a couple bites more since he loves it so much. Not this time. He pigged out. I did not say anything at this point. In the back of my mind though, I was thinking about whether there would be enough for his work lunch. (He likes to take leftovers for lunch the next day.)I did not have to wait long to find out.He opens the rice pot and sees that there is only about half of what he would like to go with the meat, sauce and pepper portion of the meal.He rudely says to me; "You didn't make enough rice... AGAIN!"Now, for me, it is not what he said, but the WAY he said it.I reply; "I made the same amount of rice I ALWAYS do AND I … [Read more...]
