Last night as we were driving to a friend's house, my husband decided to rock my world...and not in a good way!Out of the blue he just says, "So, I signed stage two of a bid sheet today for a full time position." I asked for some details and in the end the hours would be pretty close to the same, other than he would get home 2 hours earlier every day and never have to work weekends. He works two jobs now at about 52 hours a week. We have been waiting well over a decade for full time... Only having to work one job at 40 hours and weekends off would be awesome for him. Plus, knowing he is off every Sunday is good too. Here are the problems... 1. Last time he had a "full time" opportunity at his job he gave up a VERY high paying job--even trained his replacement--only to get disqualified two weeks later. We were in a mess and struggled for a bit. I never really got over it because he then informed me he did not want that particular position again...um...that is like one of the only full time options at his job! So we would have to wait even longer for a full time opportunity. Yuck! Took me quite awhile to get over all of it and adjust to a lot less money. My fear: that he will quit his current second job and get disqualified again and we would be in a huge mess...again! 2. We will lose a little over $400 a month in pay and NO raise for THREE years! Now, after 3 years he DOES get full rate which will bring us a $500 or so increase, but really only comes to about $100 more … [Read more...]
Opportunity Comes with a Price…
The List
Last night me and the old man had a bit of a tiff. Nothing in the "Dark Phoenix" realm, however, still significant in my mind...So, I come home from the last of my Christmas shopping. This was the day my girls got to get Daddy a gift from them. I was happy to be done with my part. My husband had yet to even start his shopping...This is nothing new. He waits until the very last minute most years. That does not bother me because I know he is busy. What ticked me off this night was "the list" convo we had! It went something like this... Old Man: "Hey, do you have my list yet?"Me: "List?"Old Man: "Yeah, my Christmas list of what you want."Me: "Oh, yeah, I have it on my phone... (pause) ... But, don't you have ANY of your own ideas??"Old Man: "No."Me: "Are you serious??? I went out and thought of you and got things OFF your list--not just on it!"Old Man: "Well, then you got stuff I don't want! If it's not on the list, I didn't ask for it!"Me: (seething) "You are such a JERK!"Old Man: "Whatever!" *Long Quiet Time....* This is where I am having an inner conversation battle with the Lord, that went something like this...The Lord: "Tell him you are sorry."Me: "NO WAY! Did You not hear what he just said to me?? He is SOOOOOOO inconsiderate. I mean, it's like I shopped for nothing. He already said he wouldn't like my gifts!"The Lord: "He never said those words. Regardless, say you are sorry."Me: "NO! Heeeeee is the WRONG … [Read more...]
For the Love of … Rice???
Yesterday was like any other day; work, homeschooling, more work, cleaning, shopping, cooking... Then came the rice... Curious? Well, you are in for quite a treat with this one. Again, I find myself in the awkward position of sharing a bit too much of us in an effort to heal and help myself and reach others...Let me get right to it.Last night, I made my husband's favorite meal; pepper steak over rice. He LOVES it! I do not make it very often because the meat for it is a bit pricy for this budget minded Momma. However, I wanted to do something special for him and my youngest daughter since it is her favorite too.Everything seemed to be going fine. Hubbie was sharing work stories and we were all enjoying our meal. Until... I saw him make a second full plate of dinner. Now, normally, he has one full plate and then maybe a couple bites more since he loves it so much. Not this time. He pigged out. I did not say anything at this point. In the back of my mind though, I was thinking about whether there would be enough for his work lunch. (He likes to take leftovers for lunch the next day.)I did not have to wait long to find out.He opens the rice pot and sees that there is only about half of what he would like to go with the meat, sauce and pepper portion of the meal.He rudely says to me; "You didn't make enough rice... AGAIN!"Now, for me, it is not what he said, but the WAY he said it.I reply; "I made the same amount of rice I ALWAYS do AND I … [Read more...]
